Governor Ehrlich Signs Senator Mooney’s DomesticViolence Bill
Annapolis— Senator Alex Mooney’s bill to establish an Address Confidentiality Program for victims of domestic was signed by Governor Robert Ehrlich on May 2, 2006.
Senate Bill 25 requires the Secretary of State to set up a secure mailing system where victims of domestic violence can receive their mail without fear of their abusers tracking them down.
Jill Morris of the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence said, “State Administered Address Confidentiality Programs are a vital resource in helping victims escape their abuser and lead safe, productive lives.”
Senator Mooney said, “I put this bill in four years in a row and I refused to give up protecting victims of domestic violence.”
Secretary of State Mary Kane also made passage of an Address Confidentiality Program one of her top priorities. The House version by Delegate Chris Shank was also signed on May 2.
