"I will work to limit the tax burden on the people of Cecil County as much as possible. At the state level, I was displeased with the actions taken by the General Assembly over the Special Session in November 2007 when they passed a $1.3 billion dollar tax increase. Specifically, the state leaders in Annapolis chose to raise our sales tax rate from 5% to 6%. Although this may seem small to some, to others this is problematic. The legislators may not have realized that Cecil County is a border county with Delaware and when leaders in Annapolis increase the sales tax this hurts local business in Cecil County by giving consumers even more reason to do their shopping in Delaware rather than Maryland. We cannot allow state tax policy to exclude Cecil County." |
