Steve Dishon comments on Delegate John Arnick’s passing
On Tuesday, Steve Dishon, candidate for the House of Delegates in District 6, expressed sadness upon hearing the news of Delegate John Arnick’s death from cancer. “John Arnick was a dedicated public servant with a great love for our country and state. He was greatly respected by both sides of the aisle during his time in the General Assembly because of his tireless work ethic and deep interest in fairness. He left an indelible mark on our state legislature and the community he served for so long,” said Dishon.
Delegate Arnick passed away from cancer at the age of 72, after a long career in the House of Delegates representing Eastern Baltimore County. “I was truly honored to know Delegate Arnick,” continued Dishon. “I always appreciated that he kept an open mind on issues, and had a fierce independent streak that looked at the merits of a proposal, who did not let partisanship get in the way of good ideas.”
“John Arnick’s brand of common sense is still sorely needed in Annapolis,” Dishon concluded. “He will be missed, my prayers go out to his family during their time of sorrow.”
Please keep the Arnick Family in your prayers!

Steve Dishon Wins The Prestigious International “Mark Pickell Award”
On Wednesday June 7, the International Society of Weighing & Measurement presented House of Delegates Candidate-6th, Steve Dishon of Dundalk the prestigious “Mark Pickell” award at their convention in Dallas, Texas.
The Potomac Division of the ISWM nominated Steve for this outstanding award. The purpose of the “Mark Pickell” award was created to recognize and honor that member whose outstanding activitiesand efforts during the preceding year or years has contributed greatly to stenghten the effectiveness, benefits and growth of his/her local Division of ISWM.
In nominating Steve, the Potomac Division Chairman, Rob Woodward, wrote:
Always a ‘doer’ he joined the National Scalemen’s Association in 1983, which is now the ISWM in the Southeast Division, which was always a strong division due to the participation of the J. A. King Company. He transferred to the Potomac Division in 1990 and has been actively involved in various aspects of running the division since that time. Not content to sit idly by, he has served in various leadership positions throughout the years including Vice Chairman, Chairman, Seargent-at-Arms, Secretary/Treasurer, and Lieutenant Governor and now Governor of the Potomac Division.
Among his notable achievements, he was the first person certified as a Certified Weighing Salesperson in August 1999; added his Certified Weighing Technician designation in January of 2000; and subsequently became the first person to become a Certified Weighing Professional (October 2001).
In addition to his professional activities, our nominee has deep roots in the Baltimore, Maryland area. He is very active in his Church and lists the Gideons International and Christian Business Men’s Committee as well as years of active participation in his local congregations including stints as Finance Chairman, Sunday School teacher, Worship Leader, and other aspects of his Christian life.
He, and his wife of 28 years, Patricia have raised two daughters… and now, as ever, seeking a new challenge and opportunity to make a public contribution—our nominee is running for political office as Delegate in the 6th Legisltative District of Maryland. The following words, taken from his campaign web site give some insight to the man and his motivation:
“My roots run deep in this community-- my grandparents moved to St. Helena over fifty (50) years ago and raised nine (9) children. I was raised in the Eastfield section of Dundalk on Holabird Ave. Family is important to me and I am blessed to have many of my family members living in this district.. I have come to the point in my life where my children are now adults, I have the support of my loving wife of 28 years, Patty, my energy level is high, our communities needs are great and it's time to roll up my sleeves and give back to a great district that has given me much.”
Our nominee has a rare combination of guts, grit, enthusiasm, and motivation, much of which he has directed to the Potomac Division of ISWM. He epitomizes the qualities of Mark Pickell and the Mark Pickell Award.
Whether by organizing a trip to the Orioles, setting up arrangements for a Division meeting, stepping ‘up to the plate’ for an office, running a meeting, supporting the Board of Directors, supporting the Certification program, attending Conferences with his family, as Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Treasurer/Secretary, Chairman, and more and encouraging the participation of Weights and Measures officials, there are few individuals consistently striving growth and participation in the ISWM and the Potomac Division than our nominee. Whether in the background as a participant or as a front person, our nominee has been a steady force in building the Potomac Division and its many successful consecutive Woody Woodland awards.
It is with enthusiasm that the Potomac Division nominates C. Steven Dishon for the honor of this award at the 2006 ISWM Conference and Expo, Dallas Texas.

STEVE DISHON ANNOUNCES HIS RUN FOR A HOUSE OF DELEGATES SEAT IN THE 6th. WITH GOV. EHRLICH AT HIS SIDE
Yesterday afternoon, Monday 6-27-05, at 5:30PM with Gov. Ehrlich at his side, Steve Dishon of Dundalk announced his run for a House of Delegates seat at Veterans Park in Dundalk. Steve Dishon's announcement is listed below:
I would like to announce my run for a House of Delegates seat in the 6th. Legislative District of Maryland which includes Dundalk, Essex and Edgemere.
The Baltimore County Delegation has a good mixture of both parties in Annapolis and it's time that our 6th. district has some balanced representation and a seat at both tables. In order for Delegates to get good things accomplished for a community, you need to have as much support as possible and balanced representation provides that needed support.
This district needs an infusion of fresh new energy and I'll provide that for our district with the help of our voters.
My roots run deep in this community, my grandparents moved to St. Helena over fifty (50) years ago and raised nine (9) children. I was raised in the Eastfield section of Dundalk on Holabird Ave.. Family is important to me and I am blessed to have many of my family members here with me this afternoon. I have come to the point in my life where my children are now adults, I have the support of my loving wife of 28 years, Patty, my energy level is high, our communities needs are great and it's time to roll up my sleeves and give back to a great district that has given me much.
I am especially proud and humbled that Gov. Ehrlich is here to support me in our quest to carry the needs of the 6th. district to Annapolis. I am excited to be able to have the opportunity to help Gov. Ehrlich and his administration reinforce the "Five Pillars of the Ehrlich Administration". Let me share them with you: #1 - Fiscal Responsibility: Three years ago Gov. Ehrlich inherited a $1.8 billion deficit and in three short years he has turned that into a $700 million surplus. Thank you Gov. Ehrlich! #2 - Education: 45% of every dollar that goes into the general fund is for K-higher education. In the 2005 budget Gov. Ehrlich has included an increase of $326 million which is the largest increase in Maryland's history for education funding. Thank you Gov. Ehrlich! #3 - Health and the Environment: The 2005 budget included funding that tripled the number of elderly eligible for the Pharmacy Discount Program in Maryland. This means that more elderly people can now realize the the 35% discount from what Medicaid pays on prescriptions. Instead of them paying the Medicaid price of $100, the discounted price is now $65 for a prescription. Thank you Gov. Ehrlich! #4 - Public Safety and Safer Neighborhoods: With the newly created Homeland Security, which is part of the State Police, it helps eliminate the bureaucracy in defending Maryland's homeland. You can be assured that 24 hours a day and 7 days a week law enforcement is working in conjunction with neighboring states and the federal government to provide you with the safety and security that your family deserves. Thank you Gov. Ehrlich! #5 - Commerce: This subject hit me Sunday while driving with my wife down Eastern Ave. when she asked me when we were going to get a business in the old Sam's Club building. I explained to her that our district needs some new energetic leadership that will bring State agency leaders such as Aris Melisssaratos, Secretary of Business and Economic Development, into our district and show him the old Sam's building, Goodwill Store at Merritt Park Shopping Center and the old Harold's bar, encouraging him to help find healthy tenants to help build up our community. With Maryland's unemployment rate of 4.2% which is well below the National average of 5.1%, Maryland has been a leader in creating jobs in the US. Maryland's budget includes $54.6 million to assist Small and minority businesses to grow. Thank you Gov. Ehrlich!
